How about a discussion question for us to get to know each other, and our favorite series, better.

Who is your favorite guest star on Alias Smith & Jones?

Personally, mine is a toss up between Sally Field and Walter Brennan...suppose I would have to go with Sally if I had to choose. How about everyone else?

I really enjoyed Sally Field as Clementine, too.

I also liked Kyle and Wheat - I don't know why exactly since they were played for comedy usually, but I think it's because Kid and Heyes had a history with the gang, but ultimately, it was still always the two of them, with the gang or without.

Wheat and Kyle are just cute as bugs in "The Day They Hanged Kid Curry." They crack me up through the whole thing. The way Dennis Fimple laughs just kills me every time.

Hmm. Kyle Murtry (Dennis Fimple), Big Jim Santana (Fernando Lamas), and Harry Briscoe (J.D. Cannon) all kind of jockey around for first place for me.

I have a soft spot for both Louis Gossett Jr. who played Joe in The Bounty Hunter, and Bradford Dillman who played Spencer the drunk preacher in The McCreedy Bust:GGG. Both fabulous actors. Good question!

I have nothing new to add, other than to say Lamas was the first who spring to my mind. He was very charismatic (that voice!). And I like that it gave us a little insight into Heyes' character, in that Big Jim held in such high regard and had seen him, I think, as his one-time heir apparent.

This show was fun for spotting other actors before they became big names (Randolph Mantooth, pre-Emergency) too.

They really had some great guest stars on this show. I think my favorites were coming across Pernell Roberts (since I was a Bonanza fan) because I had wondered what had happened to him and Sorrell Booke since I had never seen him in anything else except playing Boss Hogg on the Dukes of Hazzard.
I honestly did enjoy all the guest stars they had because sometimes, it just felt a bit like a "who's who" and "let's find some awesome character actors"(at least for me but I only got into the show when they had it airing on Stars Western a few years back).

I think there's too many to mention. I always wanted more of Clementine (Sally Field). One of the women I really liked was Joan Hackett in the Legacy of Charlie O'Roarke. She has that great husky voice. Her character was funny, flirty and smart.

I have to cast another vote for Sally Field. Some of the female guest stars were so wooden in their line delivery that Sally really stood out in her guest appearances - so animated and vivacious! What I loved best about Sally's guest spot was the way she spoke in such a natural, realistic way. A lot of actors back in the day had a very affected manner of speaking, that 'trained' voice sound that I really don't care for.

Having just read [livejournal.com profile] velyrhorde's post about 'Everything Else You Can Steal', I'll add Ann Sothern to that list of awesome female guest stars, too, for her ability to emote and to convey those emotions with her face alone at times. Lovely performance.

I think all my other favorites have already been mentioned, too: Walter Brennan, Bradford Dillman, Fernando Lamas, Lou Gossett, Jr. Oh, and I'll add Cesar Romero (Armendariz) and Earl Holliman as Wheat! I would add Burl Ives - I do think he did a good job with his character - but I didn't like his character. :)

Right at the top of my list is Dennis Fimple - I just love Kyle. But a very close second is Deputy Harker Wilkins, from the pilot. And Keenan Wynn (in any of his three roles *g*).

I adore Kyle. I remember back then writing to Sixteen magazine to see if they would put a picture of him in the mag. They didn't. ;-(

There were lots of guest stars and it's been awhile since I watched the series. Now thinking I may need to go watch again.

Both Peter Breck and Lee Majors made an appearance. I big nod on Sally Field, Claudine Longet was good. Roger Davis before he was Hannibal Heyes. Walter Brennon. Pernel Roberts (already mentioned of course). I'm sure I'll think of more later.

I liked Lee Majors in that part - he seemed like a cold, arrogant killer who actually had fear in his heart.

And I loved Heyes' response when the Kid says "Who does he think he is?"
"He knows who he is. And now we do too."

And, of course, after I gave the above comment I thought of Jack Cassidy. I love him on the series. A touch of snark, comedy and drama. No one could do it like Jack.

Of course, you know I loved Ann Sothern!

My other favourites would have to be Harker the Deputy from the pilot - Tran-see-ENTS! - and of course, Fernando Lamas - HAHN-ee-bahl!!

I just really like Harry. "How about settlin' for my not blowin' ya in half?"

And least favorite's easy - I loathed Claudine Longet. She was one of those people who enjoyed a brief inexplicable popularity back then and was everywhere for a short while (yet for far too long). :-)

To add another favorite: Nico Minardos. That is one EXTREMELY attractive man; I like him particularly as the stern but honest alcalde in "Miracle at Santa Marta" (one of my favorite episodes all around).
