It occurred to me while watching The Man Who Murdered Himself that after they get the amnesty, Heyes and Curry would make excellent Bannerman men, and Harry could certainly write them a glowing letter of recommendation.

What do y'all think?

That's an interesting idea...

I think it would probably work right up to the time that they had to catch someone they knew (Kyle, Wheat, anyone?). That would cause them a serious dilemma, I'd think.

That's a great idea. Except Harry mightn't be all that enthusiastic about writing that letter. They might even end up working for the competition. If Bannerman's, Harry Briscoe could have been their bumbling commander.

Either way would have made a great tv series.

I agree with quoshara, there might be conflict of interest. That sort of thing often happened in canon; and to Lom Travers, too, I suppose. I think Heyes would be confident, perhaps too confident, that he'd manage to find a way through the difficulty.

I can see it happening. I think if they had to track down someone they knew, Our Boys would "conveniently" *koff* not be able to locate them.

They are going to have to go into something that uses their talents - and Bannerman, Pinkerton, whatever, sounds like a reasonable idea

I ain't saying exactly what, but I'm working on a fic that uses that idea ... *smirk*

Indeed. That sounds like the perfect basis for a follow-up series. ;) Harry could guest star quite often in a series like that.

That seems like a natural fit for them! As much as I would love to imagine them settling down somewhere, having a little ranch (near enough to a town to allow frequent trips in for poker and drinking), by their own admission, they don't like to work that hard physically if they can help it. *g* And they would be great Bannerman men.

There's an excellent story called "Terms," by Nell McKeon, on WWOMB, whose plot involves the boys operating a detective agency. However, much happens before then and parts of it are very graphic. The story is almost 100,000 words but, imho, worth the time it takes to read it. The URL is http://www.squidge.org/~peja/cgi-bin/viewstory.php?sid=46896 (Sorry, don't know how to make it a link).

Oh! When I posted the comment, the URL automatically turned into a link--how convenient!

Yeah ... now we can go read it!

I'm thinking about writing something like this now that we've had this little lightbulb from [livejournal.com profile] devilshole
