Hey, so I was just pondering the slash content of this comm, and this fandom in general, and something occurred to me:

Heyes/Curry is the absolute OTP. I haven't seen even a trace of another pairing mentioned in passing in any Alias Smith & Jones slash. Love my Heyes/Curry, but it just got me thinking, and when I start thinking, my brain throws up fic.

So, there is floating around in my head at the moment, a sort of angsty love triangle fic, which (don't worry) has plenty of Heyes/Curry, but with the novel new pairing of Heyes/Big Jim Santana. (I was watching Return to Devil's Hole last night, which may just have sparked that thought)

So, just wondering, amongst those of you who like the slash, what do you think? Intriguing or utterly wrong? Can you imagine Heyes with someone other than his beloved Kid?

I lean toward gen in ASJ, although I certainly have written slash here. But Heyes and Big Jim wouldn't interest me in the slightest. If I'm in the mood for ASJ slash, then it's Kid and Heyes and only them.

As Kat said below, I don't think that should stop you from writing the story if it really fires your muse.

I've noticed that I far prefer OTP to the point that I don't really like series with large casts (Mag 7 comes to mind) because there are no true pairings, and every author has their own couple and own take on how the couple came to be. I want very committed couples if I'm reading slash.

I think you should write whatever floats your boat. Every story finds a reader. I don't read outside my OTP in my fandoms but that doesn't mean everybody is like that.

While wholeheartedly agreeing with [livejournal.com profile] sc_fossil that you should write what you want, in answer to your questions, "Intriguing or utterly wrong? Can you imagine Heyes with someone other than his beloved Kid?":

I'm kind of like the White Queen ("Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast"), so yes, I can "see" a Heyes/Big Jim scenario. Not necessarily intriguing, but not utterly wrong for me.

Would I personally want to read such a story? Not that you asked, but--
Hmm, if I *knew* it would end with Heyes/Curry, possibly. Other factors, such as writing style, plot elements, time constraints, etc., would be just as important to me; the Heyes/Big Jim pairing alone would not be the deal breaker. But ultimately, Heyes/Curry is my OTP, definitely.

As a Heyes/Curry OTPer, I can tell you that I have entertained thoughts that Heyes and Big Jim could very well have had 'a thing' during the time Heyes and Curry were not together and Heyes was running with the gang. I can also see Big Jim being attracted to Heyes and Heyes not returning his romantic affections, but rather seeing him as a mentor, because in his heart he was always waiting for Kid.

I did write a short piece where Kid assumes something had happened between Heyes and Jim and get all jealous about it.

At any rate, Lamas really exuded some macho chemistry when he was on screen. He was very charismatic. And he seemed to like putting his hands all over Heyes in that episode. I remember feeling very protective of him becasue Kid wasn't around to stake his claim.

Personally, I could totally see that pairing (and I'm kind of an OTPer by nature). No doubt about it. After all, it could be before Heyes chooses his "right" partner, eh? :-)

Myself, I'd very much like to read that fic.

I agree with devilshole. Also, in an AU or AH (perhaps with Heyes ending up with the Kid anyway.)

If you go ahead, good luck with it.

I think that in ff every writer should write what they want to write or read :)
It's just for fun and if people like it, they will read it, and if they don't they won't read it. For me fanfiction is about having fun playing with the characters/storylines/fandoms. There is no financial gratification, so personal satisfaction is most important for me.
Feedback is also important but not the most important. I am the only writer in Poland in my main fandom and if I get one comment after writing 14 fics I feel accomplished. I write it anyway :)

The feeling we always got from the show was that Heyes was the easy-going type who'd do pretty much anything at least once, and Curry was the tried-and-true monogamous sort. Our take on their chemistry was that Heyes has been intimate with just about anyone who showed interest in him, but since meeting the Kid, has been monogamous as well - which seems to be a surprise to Heyes at times, judging from some of the sidelong glances. And Curry, while he does trust Heyes to be true to him, has moments where he thinks uncomfortably of Heyes' life before they paired up, judging from some of the expressions that cross his face when Heyes isn't looking.

Was just reading this post and the comments, and saw several abbreviations I don't understand. Could someone please post what "OTP" and "AH" mean? Thanks.

OTP is "one true pairing" usually used to describe a person who sees a particular couple of canon together and prefers fic that deals with that pairing and not other pairings (OTPers can be tolerant of other pairings or not, depending on the person, but the usual image of an OTPer is of a person who believes in one particular pairing to the exclusion of others).

AH is, I'm guessing, "Alternate History" like AU (alternate universe) or AR (alternate reality) - a situation that doesn't fit, or contradicts, canon.
