Rounding up the hole-in-the-bank gang

IN THE Western TV series Alias Smith And Jones, the two bank robber heroes Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry who were trying to go straight had to keep out of trouble for a year in order for their amnesty to kick in. As the Kid says when this is explained to the two former members of the Devil's Hole gang: "That's a good deal?!"

Wasn't that Heyes' line?! I found this story online and got a kick out of the AS&J reference. Thought you guys might too. Nothing to do with the show (and they got the little bit they included wrong), but I like the PR.

The funny thing is, I remember when I first went to England in 1980 and wandered into a used bookshop - that was where I first discovered there were novelizations of the series! That's also how I learned that the show was a BIG hit in Britain. I bought the three used paperbacks the store had, came home and searched out the others in used bookstores here. I still lack one or two of them, but I remember how odd and delightful it was to discover that there were books all the way across the ocean. :-) The English do have good taste, of course...

oh I had *some* of the books too ... I vaguely remember one called "Cabin Fever" wherein they fall out with each other, in a cabin, obviously ... I guess then that the novelizations were not based on eps but were original stories? And yes, it was BIG over here. Our teen mags were full of stuff on Pete and Ben. I had a scrapbook .. *sigh* .. which, unfortunately I looked after no better than the books. Just as well for fic and stuff *g*

Oh, I hate Cabin Fever. :-) I can't see them hating each other, or falling out over a woman, as they do (she was a con woman). You're right, the books were all original stories. There were (checks bookshelf) at least six: Apache Gold and Dragooned, which I don't have, and Outlaw Trail, Trick Shot, Cabin Fever and Dead Ringer, which I do have. They don't beat a good fanfic, but they're OK reads.
