Vacation

Kid Curry scanned the horizon again. It'd been too long. He'd spent half the morning wondering what crazy birthday gift Heyes'd concoct this year -- and the other half wondering where Heyes was!

If he hadn't been so worried, he'd have enjoyed the silence. When Heyes was around, things were never quiet. Heyes just couldn't shut up! The Kid flopped onto his bedroll -- onto something that rustled. A note?

"Kid -- this year I'm giving you a vacation -- from my mouth! Back at supper"

Kid Curry smiled, lay back, closed his eyes. This year, the gift was perfect.
